Chesil Beach Plaice & Sole Fishing – Expertly Guided Flatfish Sessions with Ben Stockley. Experience flatfish fishing at its finest with a guided session on Dorset’s legendary Chesil Beach, targeting two of the UK’s most sought-after species—plaice and sole. This in-depth fishing experience is led by Ben Stockley, a highly skilled and consistent local angler who knows Chesil Beach like few others.
Fishing takes place along the western end of Chesil, a stretch renowned for its productive marks, particularly in spring and autumn when flatfish can be found inshore. Whether you're an experienced angler looking to refine your beach tactics or a newcomer wanting to break into light shore fishing with a solid foundation, this session offers both a learning opportunity and the potential for exceptional catches.
Please note: Jansen himself will not be attending these sessions, but you’ll be in expert hands with Ben at the helm.
What Makes This Session Special?
This isn’t just a day on the beach—it’s a fully guided and coached fishing experience. Throughout the session, Ben will share the same rig setups, baiting techniques, and strategic approaches that have allowed him to consistently catch plaice and sole on Chesil Beach, even when conditions are tricky and other anglers come away empty-handed.
You’ll learn how to:
- Select and prepare effective worm baits (such as ragworm, blow lugworm, and blacks)
- Fish with bespoke flatfish rigs, tailored for both daytime plaice and night-time sole fishing
- Read the beach and understand tidal patterns, water clarity, and ground features that influence flatfish behaviour
- Adjust your approach based on time of day, season, and fish response
Ben’s intimate knowledge of the beach comes from years of dedicated fishing, exploration, and refinement. His ability to put clients onto fish when others are struggling is no coincidence—it’s the result of knowing exactly where to fish, how to present baits effectively, and how to adapt quickly to changing conditions.
The Beach, the Walk, and the Reward
Fishing takes place on carefully selected marks that Ben has tested and proven over many seasons. Some of these spots require a walk along the shingle, so a reasonable level of fitness is recommended. While the walk can be demanding, it’s worth every step—these quiet, lesser-fished areas often hold the best chances of connecting with quality fish.
Expect to fish both daylight and low-light periods depending on the session, with plaice typically more active by day and sole preferring dusk into dark. With Ben’s guidance, you’ll learn how to make the most of both windows and adapt your rigs, baits, and presentation to suit.
